Firsts stopovers of Maersk vessels at Kribi Conteneurs Terminal, a reference transhipment hub to Africa and Asia

Cameroon. 08 August 2019

On Wednesday 7 August 2019, Kribi Conteneurs Terminal (KCT), the port container terminal operator of Kribi, welcomed the fifth ship of the Danish ship owner Maersk, with 652 containers on board.

KCT launched processing operations for the world’s leading ship owner on 2 August 2019. The inaugural Maersk ship, Newport, measuring 210 metres long, and having departed from Durban in South Africa, called at the Port of Kribi before heading on to Pointe-Noire in Congo.

The arrival of Maersk vessels confirms the deep-water port’s status as a leading logistics platform in Africa, already visited by the ship owners CMA-CGM, MARGUISA and Nile Dutch.

Through the quality of its infrastructure, the technical expertise of its teams and the administrative ecosystem, Kribi Conteneurs Terminal provides the supply chain with a modern port platform adapted to the new generation of transoceanic ships.

A key entry point for imports and exports from and to Cameroon, Chad and the Central African Republic, KCT has reported 233 stopovers since launch in March 2018, handling some 207,000 containers. KCT is set to facilitate growth in regional trade and step up the economic growth of Cameroon and the region as a whole.

KCT aims to capture major shares of goods flows on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea. We are proud of the arrival of the shipowner Maersk, the world leader in sea freight. KCT will do its utmost to make these visits a regular occurrence. This constitutes a major new chapter in our history. KCT is now firmly positioned as a key maritime access point in the Gulf of Guinea.
